Urduja hits Misor, Cagayan de Oro; Emano, Unabia pledge support

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY - (Nov 26) - As the flashfloods hit Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental the local governments has again challenged by the extent of damage to properties amounting to millions of pesos as well as the deaths of three victims.


Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro were badly hit in Northern Mindanao by tropical depression Urduja, with at least three persons dead and thousands of families were affected. There were also missing persons, report said.


According to reports the number of families affected by the floods ahs already reached to 2,600 families in Cagayan de Oro and close to 4,000 families in Misamis Oriental. Landslides and flashfloods also hit the provinces of Camiguin and Bukidnon.


Over a local radio station, Misamis Oriental second district representative Yevgeny Vincente Emano said he is now allocating funds to immediately help the flood victims in his area of responsibility.


Emano also called on generous people to extend some support in whatever help they can give to the province especially instant food and clothing.


Dako atong kasubo nga nahitabo kini busa ato na lamang hatagan ug igong suporta ang atong katawhan nga nabahaan kung unsa man atong matabang,” Congressman Emano said.


He said he is now moving to ask for support from DPWH national for the immediate rehabilitation of roads affected by the floods.


Misamis Oriental board member Peter Unabia said he is also doing whatever he can to give support to the flood victims.


“Ato karon nga gitan-aw unsa man ang mga dinaliang suporta atong mahatag ilabina sa goods, clothing and other immediate needs of the victims,” Unabia tod reporters.


He said this is the time to help the victims because they needed the support of government leaders especially in food and other needs.


DPWH regional director Jerome dela Rosa has also visited the towns in Misamis Oriental to map put the extend of damage in the roads and other infrastructure projects maintained by the national government.He said he will immediately recommend the immediate help of the national government.


In Cagayan de Oro, Mayor Conatantino Jaraula also requested the office of the city social welfare and development to survey the city residents so that the city could immediately allocate funds.


Vice Mayor Vicente Emano also said a part from the calamity funds of the city will be given to the flood victims identified by the CSWD. “Aduna kitay calamity funds nga mahatag sa mga biktima sa baha,” the vice mayor told reporters.


Second district representative Rufus Rodriguez also added his office will be allocating funds for the immediate relief operations. “Aduna na kitay mga tawo nga atong gipaadto sa mga nabahaan ug nakig-coordinate na kita sa buhatan sa CSWD kung kinsa ang angayan tabangan,” Congressman Rodriguez said.
