pagadian city “The military shares the aspiration of a better life for our countrymen,” these were the words of Maj. Gen. Romeo D. Lustestica, Commanding General of the First Infantry (Tabak) Dvision, Philippine army during the closing ceremony of the 3-day Youth Leadership Summit (YLS) held at Philippine Science High School, Balo-i, Lanao del Norte on November 12-14.

Lustestica stressed that one of the great steps in achieving that goal is by ‘giving our youth the proper forum or venue where they can see themselves as individuals who belong to a society, believing that ‘no matter how young they are, their views and opinions are always counted.”

“The youth in mindanao always face the challenges of the diverse environment of this region in terms of belief, ethnicity and origin, thus synergizing these elements is a task waiting to be toiled by our future leaders – you-- you are the future leaders,” Lustestica further said.

The good general challenged the YLS graduates to realize the important role they play in advocating peace and to participate in government programs which further prepare them of their tasks ahead..

He likewise acknowledged invaluable contribution to peace and developmental efforts of local government units and other stakeholders.

“We wholeheartedly take you as our inspiration, in performing our duties with a renewed sense of urgency, to carry out our mission to safeguard our people against those who wish to destroy our democratic way of life.,” Lustestica said. “But we cannot do this alone. We need the continuing support of the community and the partnership of the people especially the young generation. We need your inspiring support in bringing peace in this part of mindanao,” he added.

Guidance Counselor Dorothy C Drilon thanked the leadership of the AFP for conducting the activity. “They really enjoyed the activity and actively participated in the discussions. The students were able to relate with the topics that were discussed. They were hoping for another peace camp,” Drilon said.

One of the participants, Arthur Gregory N. Virata, a Senior student who hails from Pagadian City

said the activity was “real fun” and that they are all fulfilled with the lectures from

the speakers. “We hope to see more of this activity in the next school year,” Virata concluded.

The YLS is a program of the Armed Forces, represented in this part of the region by the 1st infantry (tabak) division under Gen. Lustestica’s command and more particularly by the 104th (sultan) brigade led by col benny de leon, the national youth commission and local government agencies. (GCC/PIA9-Pagadian City)
