Transport men killings, Work Related or “Rido”?

By PJTremedal

Iligan CityThis is the question now raised by Iliganons who experience a “rido” by the Maranaos that transpired in the late 80’s. Rido or between family’s war is the product of hate, anger, and unconditional emotion if one’s “Marathabat” is touch.

Maratabhat is a term used for an unconditional pride and prestige of an individual or family or a clan of the Maranao’s of Lanao Del Sur.

Triggered by the day killings of a Deputy Transportation Officer (LTO-Iligan City Office) and his brother in a broad day Monday morning as the duo riding in an Isuzu Crosswind XUV (XPM-693) was way laid and fired upon with high powered handguns by four suspects were confirmed dead.

Deputy LTO Officer Ali Datumanong together with his brother Ahkrad, (driving) while on their to the LTO office last Thursday, November 5 in the latter’s XUV and when they reach Corner Alquizar Avenue and 1st East Road, Tubod, Iligan City was fired upon by two suspects armed with Cal.45 and 9mm pistols and pumped the killer bullets to marked their death and run away in an XRM motorcycle color red, while the two who were armed with M-16s followed as a back-up team riding in tandem a XRM colored blue motorcycle speed up to unknown direction.

In a police investigation conducted by PNP Station 4 investigator, SPO4 Jesus Bergonia who conducted first in the crime scene confirmed that only two suspects fires at the victims and speed away followed by the back-up team.

The PNP-SOCO Unit of the Iligan City PNP Office arrived under P/SUPT Mary Leosy Mag-abo also confirmed that they found 20 spent empty shells from a 9MM pistol and 8 empty shells from cal. 45 pistol. However, they cannot confirmed how many bullets (lead) hit their bodies that cause there untimely death because no autopsy had been made in the hospital (Dr. Uy’s Hospital) as tradition that within 24 hours dead bodies must be buried immediately.

Meanwhile, USEC Arturo Lomibao, DOTC-LTO in Manila instructed, Regional Director Porcawa Dia of LTO Regional Office 10 to do all means to help the victims family with full investigation of the police authorities as investigators were trying to determine if the said killings was related to Datumanong’s work in the LTO or motivated by a Rido.

“Yes I was instructed by USEC Lomibao to fully cooperate with the investigation being conducted by the police and other law enforcers on the killings of Datumanong and his brother.” Dia said in an Radio Interview in Cagayan de Oro City.

As of press time, as instructed by the higher authorities, the local NBI under Atty. Moises Tamano, PNP-CIDG-Iligan under P/SI Sullivan Veruasa, and the whole PNP-Iligan District Command under P/SSUPT Bernardo Reamon group themselves to form Task Force Datumanong.
