Iligan City, Philippines – Local candidates for the Liberal Party here in this city files their certificates of candidacy with hundreds of their supporters join them in a march to the city COMELEC Office.
Led by LP Iligan Chairman Congressman Vicente “Varf” Belmonte and Vice Chairman Mayor Lawrence Ll. Cruz the Liberals of Iligan started it with a holy mass at the St. Michael Cathedral together with other candidates for the city council.
With R.A. 9742 after HB 4054 of Congressman Belmonte was approved, Iligan City is now a lone district.
Under the national LP Leadership of Senator Noynoy Aquino and Senator Mar Roxas, the Iligan LP local group will surely follow what the national chapter will guide them to fulfill their message “Unity for all, Ituloy and Laban”.
The Liberal Party hopes for a government with principled standard of change. Pro-people, Pro-God and Pro-Country.
“Yes we will be guided by our national counterpart, we have to stand with the LP cause, it is what the Filipino people want” Belmonte said.
After the filing of their certificates, Belmonte together with Mayor Lawrence Cruz, Vice Mayor Henry Dy and the 12 councilors faces the local media in Lai-lai Restaurant for a press conference.
As they answer question, the Iligan Liberal Party also shared their platform of government which focuses on Infrastructure(especially water system), Livelihood, education, environment protection, health and peace and order to name a few.
“As we administer this government and we to have finish and face another term, that’s why we have to join each other commitment to see a better and develop Iligan after 2010.” Mayor Cruz said.
The councilors who filed their COC’s were: Chonilo Ruiz, Moises Dalisay Jr., Ariel Anghay, Voltaire Povida, Bayani Areola, Jose Zalsos, Simplicio Larrazabal Jr., Providencio Abragan Jr., Rodevic Marzo, Frederick Siao, Roy Opiniano and lone woman candidate Editha Palafox.
A 15-0 winning slate is what the LP Iligan hopes for after the May 2010 election.
