Camp Alagar, Cagayan de Oro City – Four months of the campaign pursuant to PGMA’s E.O. 817 or the Gun Amnesty of 2009, the Northern Mindanao PNP Regional Command under P/CSupt Danilo Empedrad accomplished 19.44 percent of at least 3 percent based on population recommended by the said presidential executive order against the proliferation of loose firearms to be confiscated, and/or renewed by its handlers.
The 19.44 percent is equivalent to 8,083 FA’s all over the region.
According to P/Supt Gerardo Rosales, DRD-Operations, out of the 41,589 (estimate) of loose firearms, 8,083 FA’s were confiscated either unrenewed licenses, found in drop boxes, from threat groups and other criminal elements in the four months campaign that ends last October 31, 2009 as mandated in E.O. 817.
However, DRD-Operations P/Supt Rosales said that there are talks now that the final date is extended up to November 30 with a letter-request from handlers, but in the Region operations they are waiting for the memorandum from Camp Crame to implement the extension.
Yes, we heard that, but we have to wait for the official memorandum from Camp Crame” He said.
Meanwhile, in the October 31 deadline, there are still 33,500 loose FA’s still to be track down by the command, either there will be an extension or not the PNP Region 10 command will track them and look for them.
As of this writing, P/Supt Rosales added that with his office accomplishments all firearms confiscated as follows; Cagayan de Oro Police Office-2,147 FA’s( with a baseline of 6,083) or 33%, Bukidnon-1,301 (baseline of 9,326) or 13.95%, Misamis Occ- 1,196( baseline of 7,626)or 15.60%, Misamis Or- 499 (Baseline of 5,018)or 9.94%, Camiguin-92 (baseline of 169) or 36.8%, Lanao Norte-731 (baseline of 10,916) or 6.70%, and Iligan City- 841(Baseline of 2,057)or 39%.
In totality, the Northern Mindanao PNP Command has landed third place or may land on champion in the accomplishment nationwide or compared to other regions especially in Mindanao.
“That’s what we are thinking of, but it should come from Camp Crame, we will report this to Camp Crame. Let them say it.” He said.
