30 Journalists Killed in Maguindanao Massacre

Cagayan de Oro City – A day has come to condemn such a barbaric, gruesome, bastardly killings of 59 people in Maguindanao to include thirty (30) more or less journalist all over General Santos, Marvel, Sultan Kudarat and Cotabato City.

In an indignation rally held and hosted by both the Cagayan de Oro Press Club (COPC) and the local chapter of the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP) supported by other sectors such as the Union of People’s Lawyers in Mindanao (UPLM) who two members were also included in the massacre, namely: Atty Concepcion Brizuela and Atty. Cynthia Oquendo and other sectors who raised their hands in protest against the killings, thirty names of journalists who were killed was read by the Kapisanan Ng Mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) as the official names of those dead.


Authorities who were tapped by the national government to immediately respond and conduct investigation of the massive killings last November 23 in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao disclosed such names: Ian Subang-Socsargen Today, Leah Dalmacio-Socsargen Today, Gina Dela Cruz-Saksi news, Maritess Cablitas-Mindanao Focus, Bart Mravilla-Bopmbo Radyo, Joy Duhay- Southern Chronicle, Henry Araneta-DzRH Correspondent.


Others were: Marife Montaño- Saksi News, Alejandro Reblando-Manila Bulletin Reporter, Victor Nuñez-UnTV, Macmac Arriola-UnTV, Jimmy Cabillo-Midland Review, Rey Merisco-Periodico Ini, Ronnie perante-GoldStar Daily, Beinvenido Legarta-Midland Review, Val Cachuela-Punto News, Reynaldo Momay-Punto News,

Joel Parcon-Prontiera News, Randy Teodoro-Central Mindanao Inquirer, Noel Decena-Periodico Ini, John Canibal- SK gazette, Art Belia(Mascardo)-Periodico Ini, Ranie Razon-Periodico Ini, Robillo Bataluna-Goldstar Daily, Julido Ebardo-UnTV, Napoleon Salysay-Mindanao Gazette, Rosel Morales-Mindanao Focus.

And two other who were not known as of press time their media outlets, Lindo Lupogan and Daniel Tiamson. The thirty names of Journalists were killed mutilated, and the women are even rape according to reports, and even their vehicle were buried.


The indignation rally done yesterday (November 27) started at the Kiosko in Divisoria this city and ended in the first ever constructed Press Freedom Monument in the country, said monument was given by the provincial government to share its thoughts and commitment to uphold press freedom, the monument was designed by the famous International Filipino Artist Ed Castrillo.

COPC President Vince Jaudian said that "its a gruesome killings, only demons can make it happen, enough is enough for media killings". he said.
