Islamic community launches Qurbani project in Marawi

Marawi City – Four men delegation of the Islamic Community Milli Gorus e.v. (ICMG) from the different parts of Europe visited today November 27, Friday in the Islamic City of Marawi to launched the yearly Qurbani ( feast of sacrifice) project on every Edil Adha.


Agakhan Sharief of the Philippine Muslim Teacher’s College said that every Edil Adha this volunteer is visiting different parts of the globe to slaughter cows and distribute the meat to the poor people. He said that the management of PMTC is blessed that the ICMG made them as their partner in this very noble endeavor.



The ICMG volunteer will be distributing 60,000 kilos of cows meat in the province of Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur, Laguna in Luzon, the cities of Iligan, Cagayan de Oro and Manila.


Volunteer Mustafa Tane from Holland disclosed during a press conference that this year’s Qurbani project 2009 Philippines is in coordination with the Philippine Muslim Teacher’s College (PMTC), Mindanao Institute of Health care professionals (MIHP) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED–ARMM).


Eres Poyraz a volunteer from United Kingdom noted that Qurbani means slaughtering of cows offered to Allah and to be distributed to the poor and needy families who are victims of war, flood or any eventualities. ”This year 250 cows will be slaughtered in Mindanao and 100 of these is for Marawi City.


“ICMG had been in the Philippines for already three years doing the Qurbani project every Edil Adha. ICMG is serving the world in 76 countries mostly in Europe and this is our second year in Marawi” Poyraz said.


Volunteer Abdurrahman Turker, anative of Melbourne, Australia disclosed that the ICMG is also offering their services in the area of education, Irshad (religious guidance), Organizational Development, Women and Youth Development.


Turker added that ICMG is planning to provide scholarship program, assistance to the PMTC school building, books and equipments for the students.


“ICMG believes that education is very significance to every individual in establishing basic and fundamental knowledge in molding our character and helping our community.”, Turker said.


The team is also schedule to provide assistance to the victims of typhoon Ondoy in Luzon.
