Ating KOOP now a Partylist

Cagayan de Oro City – Ating KOOP as sectoral organization is now a COMELEC approved Partylist said Regional Chairman Dave Pajaron Jr for Northern Mindanao.


“It is hard to be approved by COMELEC, but we have to follow what COMELEC says and rule to become a Partylist and join the May Election 2010.” He said.


Ating Koop, whose core ideology is advocacy and promotions to the interests of the cooperative movement,. Like other cooperatives advances the interest and welfare of its members and fight for other issues that concern the cooperative sector.


Here in Cagayan de Oro late this week when COMELEC finally set it hands for the approval of Ating Koop as a political organization, Atty. Procolo Sarmien, former Chairman of FiCCO-Cagayan de Oro who is now the Ating Koop Partylist Executive Vice Chairman (Nationally) said that, it is the Philippine Federation of Credit Cooperatives that led in its interest to join as a sectoral political representative to uplift the lives of Filipinos.


“Not only the life and ideals of Filipino people but to adhere good governance and change the government the way it should be run in a democratic nation” He said.


As ontain in its By Laws and Constitution, Ating KOOP will establish a mass based at principled political party that shall fight for pro-people and pro-cooperatives issues and programs; work for the enactment of laws that shall benefit the cooperative and oppose all policies that adversely affect the sector; to call for the attention of government on the need to pay more attention to and allocate funds for the education and dissemination of information to enhance the consciousness of the people on cooperatives.


Ating KOOP will strive to allocate funds for infrastructure projects that meet the needs of the cooperatives, especi8ally the under privileged sector of the Filipino society and to participate in the struggle of the Filipino people to reform the country’s electoral and political systems.


Meanwhile, Regional Chairman Dave Pajaron said that, Ating KOOP as a newly approved party list is not against NATTCO but unfortunately it causes it opposition to Ating KOOP but,


“A vote for Ating Koop is also a vote for NATTCO but we will see to it that Ating KOOP will produce a new seat in congress” He said.


Under our political system, a sectoral organization must get at least 2% of the votes cast for a seat in congress as of now Ating KOOP has 1,000 member cooperatives under the Philippine Federation of Credit Cooperatives. As an umbrella organization the have the same level as NATTCO party list.


“Like electric coops has there own umbrella to work with. “He adds.


Ating KOOP answers the call of an urgent need for the voice of the cooperative movement to be heard in Congress so that it can participate in the enactment of laws and formulation of policies that directly impact on the cooperative sector. Good Governance, Budgetary Allocations for the benefits of cooperative movement, and development is its priority.
