Pagadian City - 75 years of charitable endeavors’ to feed thousand of hungry children, give medicine to the poor patients, relief assistance to calamities, and meaningful existence and active service the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office otherwise dubbed as PCSO vigorously pursued its humanitarian goals by raising funds through sweepstakes and lotteries and allocate proceeds to this charities.
As indispensable charity arm of the government, frequently summoned to provide money for essential health and welfare activities and projects nationwide, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) will celebrates its diamond jubilee on September 9, 2009.
After the outbreak of the Philippine Revolution that stop its operation firstly done by a Spanish private enterprise known as Empresa de Reales Loteria Española de Filipina, In 1930’s the government revived and supported its sports projects for the Filipino Youth and its first beneficiary was the Philippine Amateur Athletic Federation (PAAF).
But realizing that this cannot be limited only to sports for the youth or fighting tuberculosis during the administration of President Manuel L. Quezon, Philippine Congress enacted Republic Act 1169 on June 18 1954 to replace the old National Charity Sweepstakes (Phil. Legislation Act 413) into the new sweepstakes office.
As embodied in its charter, its primary objective is to provide health programs, medical assistance and services and charities of national character, PCSO is now spreading its charity virus down to the countryside.
June 11, 2009, PCSO charity virus came to Pagadian as it will commemorate the 111th Independence Day and kick-off ceremonies of the 40th Araw ng Pagadian, Pagadianons will share its charities.
In the media interaction done at the Pagadian Bay Plaza Hotel, Mr. William Medici, Visayas-Mindanao Online Lottery Head said that, with the PCSO 75 years Anniversary, it will also launch “Kaibigan ng PCSO Volunteer program” that focuses on health care and seeks to promote the Filipino values in volunteerism rending vital work that meets the immediate health needs of the Filipino poor.
Kaibigan ng PCSO Volunteer program is to sustain a network and linkage that will serve as sources of medical and health volunteers as well as additional funds for its charities.
As the day begins, On June 12, 2009 as Filipino commemorates the 111th year of Independence, Charity caravan 2009 will take place to serve more Pagadianons and Filipinos in the whole nation.”Let’s help spread the charity virus among us, Filipinos”
