PADAC to be revigorize and ask to act

Pagadian City – After the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) dispatched its Memorandum Circular 2009-09 to all chief executives of all local government units nationwide last January 29, 2009 for a unified action against Illegal Drugs and Other Substances.


Honorable Chairman of the City Council committee on Police, Fire and Public Safety, Honorable Eric Bersales called for a special meeting together with other stakeholders to act on the matter.


The committee also sighted laudable statements in the accomplishments’ of the city police in its anti-drug campaign that made the proliferators in the run.


“Today we commended the laudable accomplishment of our city police on their campaign against illegal drug abuse and trade within the city, this especially commendation is hereby given to its Chief of Police, P/Chief Inspector Michael Palermo,” Said City councilor Bersales.


The committee on Police, Fire and Public Safety is one in charge in legislation on the matters of police, fire undertakings and other concern that public safety needs.


In the said meeting, attended by the police, NGOs,School Heads and administrators, other PO’s and the local media shared views and opinions and resolved one and for all what to do thru an approved resolution.


Based on the DILG MC 2009-09 emphasizing to all local authorities their principal responsibilities in support to overall government efforts to address illegal drugs proliferation, and other substance in its use, trade, and other menace pursuant to R.A 9165 particular in Section 51 to 53 and the local authorities responsibilities such as prevention and rehabilitation, educational enhancement and programs, and treatment of drug dependents.


The MC 2009-09 address to all local government units to cause the enactment of ordinance complementing R.A. 9165, and ensure the establishment of drug councils to perform their functions and responsibilities as embodied in relevant DILG issuances.


The committee thru the suggestions of the participants resolved to pass resolution for the city mayor to reorganize and act on its function, the Pagadian City Drug Abuse Council or PADAC, to immediately follow-up the construction of the proposed drug rehabilitation center of the city, to increase the city budget for police action especially against drug abuse, to conduct symposiums and forums in the illegal drug campaign, to formulate plans and programs in coordination with the Liga ng Barangay on the anti drug campaigns, and to solicit the help and support of DepED, CHED and Tesda in school to school campaign.


Other stakeholders who participated in the said meeting were representatives from the Liga ng Barangay, Local media, PDEA, PNP and other stakeholders for a drug free Pagadian.
