Lanao Youth holds Interfaith Youth General Assembly Successful

Linamon, Lanao del Norte-The different (Muslims, Christians & Lumad) students’ Youth from 2 Lanao provinces converged and held an Interfaith Youth General Assembly at Villacida Beach Resort, Mago-ong, Linamon, this province. This event was held on May 30, 2009 for a whole day activity sponsored by the United States Institute of Peace (USIP), VSO PEACE Mindanao through Mr. Billy De La Rosa, Programme manager and the Kapamagogopa, Inc (KI) with Ms. Mariam Barandia, Execurive Director and organized by Nenen Juevesano of Grassroots Peacebuilder Resource Center (GPRC).


.The affair was attended by 48 youth coming from different cities & towns in two Lanao provinces. The General Assembly agreed & approved their organization’s name as “Lanao Youth for Peace & Development in Mindanao” (LYPAD-Mi). The assembly elected their officers and elected the following: President Hammidah T. Elyas; Vice President Janu Lee C. Tomatu; Secretary Nolie Pasco; Treasurer Princess Grace M. Lapinig; Auditor Aminnaida M. Mauti. They also identified Point Persons in every area with having one representative in MSU-Marawi City; Iligan City; Poona-Piagapo/Matunggao; Kauswagan/Linamon; Balo-i/Pantar; Maigo/Kolambugna; Munai/Bacolod; Salvador all in Lanao del Norte; and also one representative each in Lanao del Sur 1 & Lanao del Sur 2.


Nenen Juevesano, the Director GPRC led the Youth with their Vision, Mission, Goals & Objective of the LYPAD-Mi organization and planning of activities will be taken in their next Youth meeting as scheduled.


President-Elect Mhedz Elyas thanked the body for electing her as their president; VP Janu Tomatu also extended his thanks and committed to help the president and the body for their success for the Youth to achieve the Peace & Development in Mindanao as the Youth-group aspired for.


Juevesano advised the Youth when they have came back to their different places-schools they must make an Inner-Circle in their respective schools and have to share with their experiences what they had gain on their different activities in this recent summer.


Each of the Youth participated positively and responded to the call by Director Juevesano to do their best to achieve their Vision, Mission, Goal & objective of LYPAD-Mi.
