Pagadian City – On June 21, 2009, Pagadian City will once again celebrate its 40th year of existence as a charted city of Zamboanga del Sur, its home province.It chartering is pursuant to R.A. 5478 on June 21, 1969. Pagadian is the third city of the Zamboanga Peninsula Region.
The city government and its officialdom is strenuously preparing for a weeklong activities that commence on June 11.
“On the evening of June 11, Men in Motion, a local dance male group will start the ball rolling as it salvos the day of the festivities” Mayor Samuel S. Co said.
As it commemorate the nation’s Independence Day on June 12, Pagadian is a day ahead of this weeklong celebration.
On June 12, Pagadian will commemorate the nation’s Independence Day 112th year ago and be as it is, is an added activity to its 40th year Araw ng Pagadian. Mayor Co added that after the activity on the commemoration of the nation’s Independence Day, the Philippine Charity Sweepstake Office (PCSO) will host an opening parade, a medical-dental outreach program, giftgivings and a concert in the evening of the Independence Day celebration.
Meanwhile a well prepared line-up activity will set the festive mode of the city’s 40th Araw ng Pagadian with this year’s theme: “Pagadian: Kakugi Padayon Aron ang Dakbayan Magmalambuon”.
The search for Ms. Pagadian 2009 as major part of the activity is in shaky moves because of time constraints of the preparation and the burning incident of the city gymnasium late last month had cause some problems to include its financial concerns to push it thru or not.
“Yes it might be or may not be scrapped from the celebration, we are moving heaven and earth to make it, but if time will not cooperate with us, the search will be out of the weeklong activity” Mayor Co quips.
The said search of Pagadianon Beauties, 12 lovely ladies are vying for the title of Ms. Pagadian 2009 is now in its pre-audition and presentation preparations.
Meantime, the line-up activities includes, a Inter-office sports fests, an Open Dart and Chess Tournament, Boxing at the Park, Variety Shows at Plaza Luz, GO’,NGO’s Business Nights, Bike Competition, a Flat track and Motor cross competition sponsored by the Black Moon Riders of Pagadian and Drag Racing at Arao Avenue, Radio-Stage Drama Presentation hosted by RMN Network.
The other most important activity is the giving of Life Achievement Awards to retired employees of the city government that serve for the last 30 to 40 years of public service in the upliftment and development of what is now, Pagadian City, The new regional administrative center of the Zamboanga Peninsula Region pursuant to Executive Order 429.
The preparation was done by the City Mayor’s Office with the full support of the Sangguniang Panlunsod as it chaired by the Steering Committee under the team of Hon. Arnold “Glavys” Gavenia. In the preparation, Mayor Samuel Co has called upon Pagadianons to support and participate in the 40th year Araw ng Pagadian. The city will be celebrating its Araw ng Pagadian from June 11 to June 21, this year.
In another development, City Police Chief P/CI Michael Palermo in coordination with the 53rd Infantry Battalion, 1ID, PA under the command of LTC Samuel Gayongorza ,The PNP Provincial Headquarters ,under the supervision of Provincial Director P/SSUPT Ramon M. Ochotorena and its 905th Provincial Mobile Group under the leadership of P/CI Alikhan Yuzop and other law enforcement agencies in its area of responsibility is also preparing an OPLAN to safeguard the Pagadianons, visitors, and guest of the weeklong celebration.
“We had cordoned the area and we will be establishing strategic post and stations in all exit and entrance of the city to counter any untoward incidents.” P/CI Palermo said.
