XU-Cross Swords hosts Shoot fest

Cagayan de Oro City – Hosted by the Xavier University’s CROSS SWORD the 1st Klarex Uy Cup Shoot Fest will commence tomorrow (October 24) at the Northern Mindanao Practical Shooting Association firing range in Camaman-an this city.

As host, CROSS SWORD when organized by a group of active ROTC cadet Officers in 1974 there mission is to assist cadets enrolled in the university. But as it grows into a brotherhood of men to fulfill its vision thru Duty, Loyalty and Honor, members now professionals, businessmen again envision to be a socio-civic organization dedicated to the development of man, with sincere belief that adequate civil-military training and proper leadership development contribute to the well being and progress of the Filipinos as people.


The hosting of the shoot fest is

aimed to generate funds to support the preservation of the Cagayan de Oro watershed and its rivers and with the calamities experience last January 2009 and this years rampage of typhoon “Ondoy and Peping, not to mention Ramils after effect”)in the NCR and Luzon, CROSS SWORD’s wanted to create and establish a Search and Rescue Unit to be able to participate and coordinate with the City’s Disaster Coordinating Council and propagate disaster preparedness.


“Yes, for the last 35 years of our organization, we have come to mind that creating this Search and Rescue, CROSS SWORD can serve better.” Emmanuel deC. Gorra said.


Gorra is the incumbent Commander of the XU-CROSS SWORD Fraternal Brotherhood who give a press conference with the Cagayan de Oro Press Club this week together with the other officers and members of the organizations.


In the 1st Klarex Uy Cup shoot fest, the good congressman of the 1st District of Cagayan de oro as a patron said that with its 35th anniversary, CROSS SWORD actively participates in nation building because development is not government’s concern alone but should be a product of the cohesive efforts of all sector of the community.


“I pray that this activity would mark a fruitful partnership with this representation and the gallant members of this organization for the true development of the community we pledge to serve” Congressman Uy said.

As part of the shoot fest, Event Manager Greg Macabudbod (Vice Commander of the CROSS SWORD) confirmed that the description of the shoot fest is the PPSA Level- 1 Sanctioned Match with 5 handguns Stages (103 rounds), Range master is professor Jessie B. Salon while match Director is the Commander himself and the Range Warden is Jesus “Boyet” Yamut Jr. and will run on October 24-25 at the NMPSA Firing Range in Camaman-an, this city.


Further, Macabudbod said that as income generating project of the CROSS SWORD for their two valuable project, registration fees are encourage, Executives will pay as much as 700, Regulars is 600, and the AFP/PNP members is 300 each.


“ this competition aims to generate funds to support the conservation of the Cagayan de Oro watershed and the creation of a search and rescue unit which will enhance the readiness to respond to natural or man-made disaster or calamities,” Macabudbod said.
