On Fr. Sinnott Kidnapping; CRC Release NBI, PNP Artists Sketch

By PJTremedal

Cagayan de Oro City- The Zamboanga del Sur Crisis Management Council (CRC) under the chairmanship of Governor Aurora Enerio Cerilles recently releases artists sketches of three suspects from the National Bureau of Investigation and the PNP of the kidnappers of Fr. Sinnott who was abducted last October 11, in his residence at the Columban Fathers compound in Pagadian City.

The said artists sketches based on accounts of witnesses, the first suspect was described as 5’2” in height, 22 years old brown complexion and has slim built, the second suspect has a brown complexion with black hair and at least 5’2” in height while the third is between 30-35 years old, stands 5’5” tall and dark complexion with black hair.

This development was disclosed during a meeting with the CRC last October 14 convened by the chair, Gov Cerilles while discussing updates on the kidnapping of Fr. Michael Sinnot.

Meanwhile, Hon. Pacifico T. Pupos, Presidential Assistant for Northern Mindanao said that, with the recent kidnapping of a religious leader in Western Mindanao is a big concern for MalacaƱang.

“The President tagged us to help and support in all efforts to get back Fr. Michael Sinnott, even we are far but whatever happens in, especially Mindanao we are involved, my office shares the sadness of our political and religious leaders in this incident,” he said.

Fr. Sinnot was kidnapped last October 11 in Pagadian City, Both Military and the PNP and other law enforcers are now joining efforts with the Zamboanga del Sur CRC to monitor the whereabouts of Fr., Sinnot.

In the ARMM region, authorities are now helping in the intelligence gathering and sealed off entry and exit point in Lanao del Sur following reports that the priest was seen along the lake lanao area.

Governor Zaldy Ampatuan of the ARMM Regional Government has also tapped 600 Islamic missionaries to help gather information about the whereabouts of Fr. Sinnot and his abductors.

Meantime, Fr. Sinnott director Rev. Patrick O'Donoghue, has issued a press statement viz;

PRESS STATEMENT

Some press and other media reports today are saying that the kidnappers of Fr. Michael Sinnott have made contact with his Columban Superiors. One report went so far as to say that this contact was by way of a "phone call, made yesterday by emissary of the kidnappers". I find these reports disturbing and distressing. They are inaccurate and I cannot understand why they would be published without verification.

May I clarify that I personally have had no contact with anyone claiming to be one of the kidnappers or representing them. Nor am I aware of any member of the Missionary Society of St. Columban having contact with the kidnappers or their representatives.

Together with the Bishop, clergy and people of Pagadian, all who love Fr. Mick and all those who are concerned for his welfare, we are anxiously waiting for some news of Fr. Mick's health and situation. At 79, Fr. Mick needs urgent medical attention.

The Bishop of Pagadian, Msgr. Cabajar is the liaison person between the Church and the Provincial Task force set up to ensure the safety and to obtain the safe release of Fr. Mick. His role is not that of "negotiator".

I realize that these reports may be published in good faith and in the hope that Fr. Mick's release is imminent. But inaccurate statements, from whatever source, can cause confusion among the public and further anxiety and pain to those close to him. They can also be unhelpful to the efforts to obtain his speedy and safe release. We would, therefore, like to appeal for understanding from everyone to be very cautious and discreet about issuing public pronouncements.

May God of Peace bless all our efforts to bring Fr. Mick safely home.
