Zambo Sur is most critical on Drug Abuse?

By PJTremedal

Is Zambo Sur really the most critical province in Western Mindanao on drug abuse? This is the question raised by the all zambosurians in the latest Regional Peace and Order Council meeting done in Hotel Alindahaw late this week after the Regional Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA 9) had reported.

PDEA Regional Director Adzhar Albani in his report about the agency’s campaign against illegal drugs and other substance confirmed that Zamboanga Del Sur and Sulu province is now in the watch list and Zamboanga Del Sur is the most critical.

As fact had shown in PDEA briefing questions were raised why? Even Governor Auring Cerilles who presided as Chairman of the RPOC was shock seeing the digital briefing by the PDEA Regional Director.

“How come” she asked?

It may be recalled that the Governor called for an all-out war against illegal drug, and even formed a task force “Druga” with the support from her administration and in coordination with all law enforcement within the province all together with the PDEA Team based in Zamboanga Del Sur and Pagadian City, to include the AFP.

Together with the governors call, the PNP has also formed its counterpart, The Provincial PNP Special Task Force against drugs, that for the few months it started, apprehension and filing of cases against suspects, user or pusher they may be are now on the run to avoid capture.

As the issue was raised on the floor, PDEA Regional Director Albani has cautioned all participants that based on their findings and reports, Zamboanga Del Sur is a strategic area for the drug traffic and they considered this as most critical, however it does not mean that Zamboanga Del Sur has never acted on the campaigns to eradicate drug abuse.

“We don’t mean negative, we even appreciated the support and help of the provincial government against illegal drug use, but because of this strategic route we considered the province most critical, likewise the province of Sulu, which is now under watch because of the Sandakan-Simpura-Tawitawi-Jolo-Zamboanga Drug Route.

As the reports had shown, the campaign against illegal drug from January to June this year , with Zambosur all out war against illegal drugs with its 13 operations netted 23 suspects, 247.7 gram of suspected drugs” shabu” apprehended and 25 cases are now filed in courts. While in the joint operation conducted by the PNP, PDEA, 53IB, in its 74 operations 117 suspects were arrested, 132,.4228 grams of the illegal drugs “shabu” and 61.175 grams of marijuana substance. And 122 cases are now filed in courts.

While in Sulu, in a Philippine Marines and PNP Operations in Maimbung, Sulu, PDEA uprooted 1,500 hemps worth 300 thousand of marijuana plants.

PDEA RD Albani has also showed there concern especially in updating their resources and support from local government units in all Western Mindanao.

“Zamboanga Del Sur and Sibugay have given their support and help to us especially on logistics, however there are still local government units that we are encouraging to be institutionalized. We’ve also deputizing police and military men to be able to handle illegal drug cases, and we are now establishing four provincial offices to implement Task Force “Bandila” which PDEA 9 is in charge along with region 10 and ARMM campaign.” Albani said.
