Seasonal flu vaccines do not protect people from A(H1N1), DOH says

Pagadian City The Department of Health (DOH) in its advisory, reiterates that the seasonal flu vaccines that are now available in the local drugstores do not protect people from A(H1N1).

The DOH advisory was supported by City Health Officer Dr. Noel Ceniza, saying the “flu vaccine is for ordinary flu and not for A(H1N1) and so it’s practically useless.”

Acting Provincial Health Officer Dr. Delia Pastoriza said, that the “seasonal flu vaccines cannot protect people from the said virus” because the vaccine would protect only those who have flu and not those infected with the AH1N1.”

“Many people think that the seasonal flu vaccine would help them from getting the said virus but in reality, it would not,” Pastoriza explained.

The Department of Health (DOH), Regional Office, Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO), and the City Health Office are pooling together all resources in conducting orientation on A(H1N1) to local government units (LGUs), public and private schools, and health workers to heighten public awareness on the said virus.
