GOV CERILLES UNDERSCORES THE IMPORTANCE OF PGMA’S TRIPS ABROAD

Pagadian City Governor Aurora E. Cerilles said the scheduled visit of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to the United States on July 30 will be a milestone in Philippine history as she will be the first elected President from Asia and Southeast Asia to have been invited and to have the privilege of meeting with US President Barack Obama at the White House.

“ As President of the Republic, it is but part of her duties as the highest official of the land to maintain bilateral relations among all nations,” Cerilles said in a statement, adding that “this relationship is very vital in keeping the country abreast with the economic, social as well as political status of other countries.”

“ The invitation of President Barrack Obama to the President is something we Filipinos should be proud of considering that PGMA will be the first Asian leader to visit the White House come July 30,” Cerilles added.

She further said, that aside from the boost of trade relations between the US and the Philippines, other issues will also be addressed whereby the US, as our partner in the fight against terrorism, would help us in coming up with a framework in addressing the decade-long conflict in Mindanao.

“ I am very optimistic that this visit would bring good tidings to the Filipino people and foster cooperative relations between the US and the Philippines,” Cerilles declared.

This would then lead to a strengthened economic partnership and increased military assistance, thereby boosting efforts to combat terrorism in the country. (PIA9-Pagadian City)
