Iligan City- The Civil Society Organization Forum for Peace (CSO-FP) together its 30 NGO partners and the support of VSO-Peace Mindanao, the Iligan city government, the Military, the Police and other sectors had successfully celebrated the Iligan Week of Peace (IWOP) held last March 22 - 28, 2009 with its THEME; “Advocate for Peace, Justice and Human Rights”, said Managing Director Jun Enriquez.
The IWOP 2009 had implemented different activities during the week, March 22 – 28 are as follows: On March 22 program were the walk for peace, peace rally, literary contest, kalilang festival, hudyaka sa kalinaw & acoustic contest; March 23, the CSOFP & other NGO partners had joint the flag raising ceremony @ Iligan city hall amphi theater. March 26, women in governance forum held @ Elena tower inn, and it has also the radio programs in DXLS-FM & DXRJ-AM stations and the photo gallery & t-shirts printing. On its culmination rites on March 28, held the hudyaka sa kalinaw-cultural shows & awarding ceremony.
The Women, Peace & Governance forum was held in Elena tower inn that were attended by different women’s organizations coming from Iligan and Lanao areas, headed by Women Commissioner Nitz Sescon and its adviser Ms Jayshree Boot of the VSO-Peace Mindanao.
Speakers in the women’s forum were city councilor Ereka Rae M. Cruz, chair, SP committees on women & family welfare, indigenous peoples & youth affairs; Hon Raida Maglangit, municipal mayor of Kapatagan, Lanao del Sur; Bae Liza Mae Saway, woman leader, Bukidnon indigenous peoples; Hon. Tarhata Alonto Lucman, former governor of Lanao del Sur; Dr. Minoh Mayo and Dr. Minombao Ramos Mayo both from the MSU Marawi King Faisal Centre for Islamic & Asian Studies.
In its workshop and thru the power points’ presentation it was found out that women has the bigger population about 55% over than men, but in the actual ratio that women who were elected and/or in the governance is only about 5%.
In that women’s forum they came out with a Resolution thru its workshop being done and they have created a Working Committee that who will continue to work in order to organize, unite the women force for and in the preparation in the forthcoming 2010 elections that women has to play more role in the governance as it is provided for by law.
Generally, the Iligan Week of Peace 2009 celebration was very successful, the CSO-FP officers, management committee & staff are very much thankful to the support given by their NGO partners and to all other groups either government or private sectors who had also extended their support on this week long peace affair.
