1.3 M for food as Leyte Government allocates for the Palaro athletes

Tacloban City – 1.3 Million budget has been allocated by the Provincial Government of Leyte for the expected 13,600 athletes and coaches coming from 17 participating regional athletic associations that accordingly will only last for two days.


“There is nothing to fear about because each delegation has its own budget, the provincial government has initiated this for its share in welcoming them” Provincial Agriculturists Rogelio Portula said.


On the said allocation for food for the Palaro athletes, one cattle (pure bone), 15 cavans of rice, two pigs (lean meat, 80 kilos of chicken and 500 pieces of eggs is now prepared for each region to consume for at least two days.


The 2009 Palarong Pambansa is scheduled to be opened by Her Excellency President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on April 28.


“It’s a big help for us” RD Walter Albios of Region 9 as quoted saying.


The Zamboanga Peninsula Region (ZPRAA)is billeted at the San Jose Elementary School near the Tacloban City Airport.


Meanwhile, Regional Director Sol F. Matugas of DepED Region 8 said that preparations for the big event in her region are still ongoing especially for the daily sports events venues and areas, as well as the billeting schools.


“There are minor requests and problems from the different regions, but we are answering them together with the help and support from both the city and provincial government as co host of the 2009 DepEd Palarong Pambansa,” she said.


In another development, Provincial Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla has organized a task force for the safety of all athletes’ coaches and visitors from all over the country. As other agencies tapped for the event, the Steering committee of the Palarong Pambansa has initiated other activities such as social gatherings, an agro-trade fair, as well the promotion of its tourism potentials.


As host City, Mayor Alfred Romualdez has also organized his team in coordination with the provincial government for the success of the 2009 Palarong Pambansa.

Islamic City of Marawi turns 29th

Marawi City -The government of the Islamic City of Marawi has celebrated its 29th Founding Anniversary on April 11-15, 2009, with the Theme: “Revival of Cultural Values, for Peace & Unity”, under the administration of City Mayor, Hon Sultan Fahad “Pre” Salic and full support of all elected city officials.


On the culmination rtes on April 15, the Guest Speaker was National Security Adviser, Secretary Norberto Gonzales together with his party; and also present were Atty Rebecca Ampatuan; Lasureco General Manager Sultan Ansary Pacalna; Col Rey Ardo, Commander of the 104th Inf Bde, PA; former City Mayor Solitario Ali and many other personalities not mentioned.


In the morning of April 15, it was the longest parade ever since here in the Islamic City of Marawi as they are celebrating their Founding Anniversary and were participated by all different government line agencies; all schools in the public & private; the DepEd in particular; Datus, Sultans, traditional leaders and all other sectors with Maranaw Cultural presentations were the highlights.


City Mayor Salic had extended his heartfelt thanks to all the guests from the National, ARMM; the Marawi City Barangay Association; visitors; traditional leaders, city hall employees & all other sectors who supported the very successful celebration of its 29th Founding Anniversary and also thanks all the members of the Peace & Order Council that the Islamic City had now achieved real peace & order.


For & in behalf of ARMM Regional Governor Zaldy Ampatuan’s speech, it was read & given by ARMM Tourism Secretary Salic-Malna, she said that Regional Governor Ampatuan & its administration have good governance; peace & order; it has 3-year priority program with the participation of NGOs; to review the 1996 Peace Accord between the GRP & MNLF; support he ongoing GRP & MILF peace talks; promote the ARMM government; preserve & protect the resources & environment; the Islamic City is the center of Education, Culture & Arts; and the OIC is supportive to the peace & development of ARMM.


National Security Adviser, Secretary Norberto Gonzales said in his speech, he urged them to support the peace agreement of the GRP & MNLF and support the peace talks of the GRP & MILF, sooner the peace & order will come to us here in Lanao & Mindanao. It is shameful to the government that ARMM is the poorest region supposedly it is the richest region in the Philippines because it has the resources. Boracay is nothing versus Marawi City, and why many foreign countries are interested here in Mindanao because of its richness in natural resources . Sec Gonzales encouraged the Lanao & Mindanao people to stop the war, start peace and think about it, especially in Muslims area, it is your hearts, the Bangsamoro people with your Muslim-Islam religion is important and preserve Islam, attend peace, and you can elect your good leaders in our politics today. Now, its about time to work for peace & development, you are rich people we need changes, stop the agony of your poor people and don’t forget your Maranaw heritage, Secretary Gonzales concluded.


In an interview by the media with ARMM Tourism Secretary Najeema Moki-in Salic-Malna, she said that the Islamic City government is promoting its Maranaw culture, camaraderie, peace & unity of the Maranaws & all Lanao people, and she told the visitors to stay here as you will no more worry on your safety because the city now is free from kidnapping. We also have here different beautiful sceneries & also in the province of Lanao del Sur, in MSU you can see the sleeping lady on the mountain, the Lake Lanao & others. She extended her thanks to the ARMM Regional Governor Zaldy Ampatuan for the full support.


The media had also interviewed Executive Secretary Alexis Malna, he said that Islamic City of Marawi is celebrating its 29th Founding Anniversary (more than 60 years from its previous name Dansalan city), and it is the only Islamic City in the Philippines, they are reviving the Maranaw/Muslim Cultural Values for Peace & Unity, not only in the Islamic city but also entire Mindanao. He also invited all people and investors either from Manila of foreign countries to come here, the city is now free from kidnapping and it has implemented different development like on infrastructure projects: road concreting, school & health buildings, clean & green, no more lawless elements and it is a gun-free city with the efforts made by former city mayor Solitario Ali and incumbent city mayor Sultan Fahad “Pre” Salic.

City Cops Collared Two Fugitives

ted persons, Pagadian City Finest’s under the new leadership of Police Chief Inspector Michael Pineda Palermo collared two persons with warrant of arrests recently.


Last April 17, 2009 a certain Danilo Taboada y Morales,51 years old, married, and a resident of Purok Lawis , Sta Lucia, this city was seen at the Agora Gate No.9 ,together with warrant server of the city police and other operatives take no time to arrest said suspect. By virtue of Warrant of Arrest with Criminal Case No. 8393-2K6 issued by Judge Rolando L. Goan of RTC Branch 21, said suspect was arrested for Murder without bail bond recommended is now under temporary detention at the City PNP Locked Up cell awaiting proper turn-over to the court.


On the same date, at 1:00 PM another suspect with warrant was collared at Plaza Luz this city. One Bicbic Tomboc of legal age, a resident of Purok Makabibihag, Sta Lucia District, Pagadian City by virtue of warrant of arrest issued by Judge Romeo T. Descallar of Regional Trial Court Branch 19 was arrested for the crime of Frustrated Murder with Criminal case No. 9337-2K9, the suspect has a bail bond recommend in the amount of two hundred thousand pesos for his temporarily liberty and now detained at the City PNP Locked Up cell awaiting for court action.


It may be recalled that the police is now in its campaign against all criminalities as it is order by higher authorities particularly the Provincial Command to fast track their jobs as peace officers.


“We have to prove our worth so that, Pagadianons will trust as their police officers, we have to move on our efforts to make Pagadian a peaceful place to live in” PCI Palermo said.


Meanwhile, the Pagadian City Police is also concentrating on how to solve traffic problems which is now getting bigger everyday as Pagadian is now the Regional Seat of Government. And to discipline erring tricycle and other drivers that frequently violates traffic rules.


“Yes, we are now trying to discipline them by not necessarily apprehending them and issue TOP’s, but we adopt a fatherly punishment by giving them special exercises. We know in fact that issuing TOP’s will hamper their source of income; at three hundred pesos per violation is a loss to their daily income.” PCI Palermo added.

Youth Fest to grace 1st LMP-ZDS Week

Pagadian City – The 2nd ZamboSur Summer Youth Fest is in celebration of the 1st League of Municipalities in the Philippines-Zamboanga del Sur Chapters Week. This whole month of April is focused to the celebration as one of the three major festivals of the province, the first two are: Megayon Festival that falls on September and the “Pasko Nato” Festival on December.

The 2nd ZamboSur Summer Youth Festival is a month long series of culture, arts and sports activities aimed for youth development, it is an institutional venue for the development of the youth of the province, ages 8-21, in terms of their artistic skills, physical abilities and socio-cultural sensitiveness.

It will also features workshops and seminars by known national artist for art disciplines and made possible with the help of the National Commission for Cultures and Arts (NCCA). The youth fest will also focus in sports development and offer sports clinics as part of the comprehensive Provincial Sports Development program of the Governor Aurora Enerio Cerilles.

To support the IP’s (Indigenous Peoples) or to the Subanens of Zamboanga del Sur, A youth camp that will serves as cultural immersion for youth among the Subanens youth group. The subanen culture will be featured on this activities such as rituals, their arts, their music, their belongingness,and their culture of peace.

The summer fest is co-organized and co-presented by the League of Municipalities-ZDS led by its president, Mayor Ace William Cerilles and the SK Federated of Zamboanga del Sur.

The send event will be a part of the continuing efforts towards showcasing the tourism potentials of the province especially promoting the Agro-Tourism and Heritage Complex as one of the newest tourism destination of Zamboanga del Sur as it serve as the gateway to the twenty seven municipalities tourism potentials.

Sepak Takraw (con’t) Football (con’t) Drama workshop(con’t),Lawn Tennis Competition, Mayor’s Volleyball Exhibition Games and Basic Mountaineering Course, the Band fest will feature: Mahayag Band, Youth Band.

Fun Run, Sepak Takraw(con’t) Lawn Tennis(con’t) Football(con’t) Market Day, Basic Mountaineering(con’t) and in the evening the LMP-ZDS Fellowship Night.

Bayking (Biking) sa AHC, Gukod 2009: Eco-Adventure Race, ZamboSur Skateboarding Invitational, Gayon Bhegombasta Subanen IP Youth Camp, Market Day (con’t) and during the evening Awarding Night and Closing of the 2nd ZamboSur Summer Youth Festival.
