Cagayan de Oro, MisOR – The 27 Million Heritage Monument conceptualized and made by the International Artists (Sculptor) Ed Castrillo is near to its completion. The said Cultural Heritage Monument will be inaugurated on the 80th Anniversary of Misamis Oriental come January 2010.

In a latest interview with the artist, Mr. Ed |Castrillo said that the reason why he suggested the concept to the provincial government thru Governor Oscar Moreno is “to honor the cultural heritage of the province to show to the world that Misamis Oriental is rich in its culture which is a pivotal contribution of the contemporary history of the whole Mindanao”.

It may be recalled that sometime August this year, Mr. Castrillo and the provincial government approved the 27 million heritage monument to be erected in the capitol park, but as the negotiation goes along he (Castrillo) offered another project a total structural tableau without any financial obligation from the province.

The Press Freedom Monument whom it is now build and erected not far from the Heritage Monument is given free by him(Castrillo).

“It is a sacrifice on my part with a minimal cost, but because of what I believe in this profession and work, the Press Freedom is my dedication to all Filipino journalist who faces impunity and suffered because of their commitment to press freedom” He said.

About the project, “All of my project usually done within 1 year and 8 months to finish, the longest time I have work with is the Cebu Heritage Monument (4 years to finish), but this Misamis Oriental Heritage Monument is the unusual as may I say because I committed to finish it within 9 months of priority work.” He adds.

The Cultural Heritage of Misamis Oriental depicts the history of the province which Castrillo himself research with the National Historical Institute (NHI) and some contributions from local folks (Old and aged). The Structural Tableau is 14 meters high in height, made of bronze metals (not from the Philippine supplier) and cement foundation. It comprises with four (big) dimensional characters, indigenous people of Misamis Oriental, a river, and other flora and fauna structures that say something about the history of the province.

Castrillo added that, his research with the Province History and with the help from National Museum and the National Historical Institute(NHI) answers some question that was raise during its conceptualization.

“It is a full research of the history of the province of Misamis Oriental” He said.

Meantime, the International Artist has published his personal table book that will be introduce to the Department of Education to be offered to school libraries for the students to read and think about why He had gone far from his ordinary sculptor things, designing, and creating things with the metal industry, but to emphasize what should an artist must show and educate people with his accomplishment in the context of the real and truthful cultural and arts education.

“I have been known internationally, but I pity our Filipino children, their future, so I decided to make things better for them to make emphasis what is the true Filipino Identity that every children of this country can be proud of.” He said.
