“Let the justice system work.”
This was the advice Press Secretary Cerge Remonde gave the lawyers of the Ampatuan family, some of whose members are primary suspects in the Nov. 23 Maguindanao massacre of 57 people, over 30 of whom were journalists.
“We are not in a position to give advice to the Ampatuans or anybody for that matter on how to handle the case,” Remonde said in a radio interview this morning (but) “President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is determined to see that justice is given to all, especially the victims of the massacre.”
Earlier, the President described the Maguindanao massacre as a “dark day” in the country’s history.
“How the suspects will handle themselves is up to them. Of course, we will ask them to abide by our laws and our justice system. As to how they handle their case, that is their own right,” he said.
