Senatorial candidate Rep. Liza Maza of Gabriela lauded the Supreme Court decision in issuing a TRO against Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) implementation of the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) project.
“It is good that the Supreme Court heeded the call of the people. This is a victory that should be credited to the public and the transport sector who vigilantly opposed the anomalous RFID scheme. The LTO must immediately refund the P520 it has collected from motorists since January 1, 2010,” Maza said
Maza is one of the petitioners who asked the Supreme Court to issue a temporary restraining order and prohibition on the implementation of the RFID system. She is also the first who filed a resolution in Congress seeking to investigate the LTO-Stradcom project.
“The public has the right to know the basis of any project that will be implemented by any government agency. We should continue to be on guard now that the Arroyo administration is apparently desperate in unleashing more schemes especially right before the 2010 elections,” Maza stressed.
Maza’s House Resolution No. 1429 directs the House Committees on Transportation and Information and Communications Technology to investigate the impending implementation of the Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology san wider public consultation and public advisory and which allegedly underwent shady bidding process.(pr//Gabriela)
