“ Muay Thai” sa Mis Or

Cagayan de Oro – This year’s Mindanao Muay Thai qualifying games is hosted by the Province of Misamis Oriental under the leadership of Governor Oscar Moreno.

Opened yesterday (Sept 4), with Zamboanga City, Tacurong, Sultan Kudarat, Davao City, Zamboanga Sibugay and host province Muay Thai boxers show there punches,kicks and strategy to fight each other in a friendly competition, Cagayanons and visitors were glad and happy to enjoy such games.

Muay Thai (known to some outside of Thailand as Muay Thai kickboxing) is a national sport of Thailand as well as a national passion. It is a fighting technique borne out of combat reality.

Known as the science of eight limbs Muay Thai kickboxing uses the knees and elbows as well as kicks and punches. Almost any part of the body is considered a fair target and any part of the body, except the head, may be used to strike an opponent.

It is considered by many to be the ultimate in hand-to-hand fighting. Muay Thai kickboxing is a professional and amateur sport, a martial art, aerobic fitness programme and a useful form of self-defence.

But Muay Thai kickboxing is more than just learning how to fight. Muay Thai kickboxing is a strong and vigorous martial art art that teaches self-discipline and self-awareness. It has been passed down through generations for the last 2000 years.

The sports started in the Philippines in 1999 and adopted it as one of the major sports activites not only to the muay thai expersts but to new students all over the country to learn and practise Muay Thai.

During the said opening, three minute rounds match of 11 semifinals round matches were seen by the cagayanons as they enjoy muay thai. In the last event two ladies from Tacurong and Misamis Oriental show their might as women can practice Muay Thai.

Mary Joy Florida of Tacurong wins against Lovely Valencia of Misamis Oriental after a three minute round match in their 51-54 kilograms weight.

Meanwhile, Ms. Maricel Rivera, PGO- Information Officer of the Office of the Governor said that the province will celebrate it Tourism Week celebration slated next week (September 7 – 11) at the capitol grounds.

Activities such as Cultural Nights hosted by the two districts of the province, Capitol Band Concert, Exhibits and Culinary Arts competition, “Hulagway sa MisOr: A Pitourism Photo competition and a Theater Festival is expected to be participated and witnessed by misamisnons.
