PGMA condoles comrade in arms; annihilates Abus

Zamboanga City – President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo arrived yesterday at 9:45 AM and immediately proceeded to the AFP Western Mindanao Command headquarters at Calarian aboard her presidential plane to extend her condolences’ and assistance to the families of the soldiers of the Philippine Marines who are now lying in state at the command gymnasium.


Then, Arroyo proceeded to Camp Navarro Army Hospital to award medals of honor and also extend financial assistance to the wounded marines and afterwards presided the command conference.


Last August 12, the Philippine Marines encountered more or less 50 Abu Sayaf Group believed to be under Commander Furuji Indama at BarangaySilangkung, Tipi-tipo, Basilan that resulted to the killings of 23 marines, wounding 13 while 2 was reported MIA (Missing in Action).


The firefight last for hours which also wounded and killed members of the said ASG group, AFP WESMINCOM counted 7 dead from the enemy while some of the wounded were reported carried by the retreating ASG.


In the encounter, government troops recovered 3 M-14 rifles, 2 M203, 1 RPG, 4 Special Automatic Weapons, 1 M-16 rifle , and a tube from an M203.


In today’s command conference, the president ordered full co-operations of the government and the mayors especially in Basilan province and to provide incentives and rewards to local government units who were actively engage in the fight against terrorism.



“I want full cooperation to all government agencies and the local government units to ensure the people of Basilan from this condition right now” the president ordered.


Meanwhile, the nation’s defense secretary SEC Gilberto Teodoro said that the president has instructed the Armed Forces particularly the Western Mindanao Command under General Ben Dolorfino to rapidly conclude the war in Basilan.


“the armed forces must annihilate the Abu Sayaff to ensure that the major projects in Basilan like the Circumferential Road will not be hampered with the recent condition of the pace and order of the island.” Secretary Teodoro said.
