Initial reports revealed that the three public school teachers, namely; Noemi Lachica Mandi, 39 years old, Jocelyn Azuelo Inion, 30 years old, and Jocelyn Valdehueza Enriquez, 42 years old, were on board the motorized pumpboat along the waters of Sibugay bay on their way home to Poblacion Naga from their teaching jobs when ordered to stop by four (4) armed men on board another motorized banca. The pumboat operator Tajir Abdurahim, their regular boat driver, jumped overboard for fear of his life when the four (4) suspects aimed their high-powered firearms at them.
A fourth teacher, Arquiza Jumawan Yusop, who rode along with them was spared. She said that she was left behind when one of the abductors ordered that muslim teachers will be spared. The armed group, together with the abducted teachers then sped off towards the high seas in an undetermined location.
Elements of the police and the military are now continuously conducting pursuit operations amid the declaration of the provincial PNP headed by P/Supt. Federico Perez Castro for a full red alert in the entire province.
According to Senior Insp. Lorenzo, information officer of the provincial PNP office, the police are certain that the abductors and their victims have not gone far away and are still within the area around Zamboanga Sibugay. He added, that the Task Force Bangkaw-bangkaw was organized to conduct follow-up operations.
The task force Bangkaw-bangkaw is composed of the elements of the police , army, navy, CIDG and local officials. Checkpoints are now set up by the army and police along the highways while naval blockades are being established along the seas.
